Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
The Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society has been a non-profit music presenter at the Douglas Beach House since 1964.
What is your primary product or service?
Live Sunday afternoon music concerts.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I inherited this job from my father, Pete Douglas. Pete was a beatnik from the 50's who grew up in the LA area, and hung out at the legendary jazz club in Hermosa Beach, The Lighthouse, where he formed his love of Jazz. He moved to Half Moon Bay in the late 1950's into a small beer joint called the Ebb Tide Café. From there he kept building on eventually building the concert room which is a beautiful cedar-walled venue overlooking the ocean.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We provide a concert style experience in an intimate (200 seats) setting right on the ocean. The musicans who play at the Bach love the venue and our patrons even more so because we combine world class music with a beautiful environment.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Only one location; no plans to expand.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We are located in the Coastside Miramar Beach neighborhood, two blocks west of Hwy. 1, between Devil's Slide and the intersection of Hwy. 92 in downtown Half Moon Bay. Detailed directions are on our website. www.bachddsoc.org
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash and credit card.
Which areas do you service?
Our audience mainly comes from the SF Bay Area, although many come to the Coastside from Santa Cruz, Sonoma, and other distances. We are 45 minutes from San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Many of our patrons live on the SF Peninsula.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
This is a non-profit organization. The current President is Barbara Douglas Riching who took over when the long term founder and President, Pete Douglas passed away in 2014.
What are your hours of operation?
On concert days the doors open at 3:30pm, two one-hour sets begin at 4:30 with intermission. Every weekend the Ebb Tide Beach Cafe downstairs, is open to the public from approximately 10am to 6pm.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
A sincere thank you for providing a wonderful day of music at the beach.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.
